It was so exciting two years ago to get a credit card machine but boy did it end up costing me a fortune...as I only use it once a year! the Square is the perfect solution..it is reasonable and it works on my Samsung tablet. I did have to have Aaron at Verizon walk me through how to get the app on my tablet, and now it works!!!
For my generation this is really magic stuff....I can now take payments any time... in the middle of the night... any where I can get a signal.... It adds the tax and send the money to my bank account. Most of you problably already know this but to people like me it is soooo exciting. When technolgy works...it is an awesome thing.
I hope you noticed how I'm training the Universe to see big numbers going through my Square! I've got a month to send these messages....numbers..... out there.
A new look for the Studio Tour in May for my canvas covered painted boxes. These little jewels were a real hit during the holiday season so I have comeup with a new look for this season. I am using paperclay to sculpt the masks and the Venus figures that I am sure will go somewhere soon. Then I paint the masks using my acrylic paints.....that paperclay really sucks in the paint nicely. The next step is to paint the box to match. I'm liking the tribal look and have found some cool beads and feathers to add at the end.
After I have a large stack I'll post what they look like......you're going to want one!!!
The 15th annual CAA Studio Tour is just next month. It's on Mother's Day weekend..Friday thru Sunday..plus the next weekend. Five full days to enjoy our beautiful island and see and purchase some awesome art directly from the artists in their studios.!!!
This means I have only 31 days to organize-to finish what is started- and to get started what needs to be finished!! It's a busy time in the Studio and all this rain is helping. When the sun shines it is hard to stay inside.
One of the new things you'll see this Tour is my new mini series. These are done on 7" by 5" and 12" by 6" canvases. I started on the 7" by 5" when I needed a place to experiment before trying a new technique on a bigger more expensive and time consuning canvas. Most of these experiments were with underpainting techniques and colors on the golden area of my paintings. I tried printing with feathers and tree branches and wiild and crazy shapes. I really liked the feathers for printing and the tree branches for creating texture in the gesso before painting. You can't see this in the photo as the underpainting only shows at certain angles....I love that as well! It changes as you walk around it.
Lots more news coming up. I have neglected my blog for months now....however, this is the time to let people know what I'm doing so they can get excited about coming up to see me in May!
Today I finished up my pewter casting class that began last week with the making of the mask in wax and the making of a paster mold. It was fun to fire up the torch, melt the pewter, and pour it into the mold....it worked!! I loved making something that is durable...this puppy is not going to break. So many of my clay pieces have broken.
I have been carrying it around in my pocket...I love it!! What a fun day!
